ALSC holds events like Speed Networking to help facilitate these things, but many people are turned off by the word “networking.” It smacks of vain self-promotion. It’s easier to say, “I’d like to get know you,” rather than “I’d like network with you.” Unfortunately, “ALSC Speed Networking sounds better as a conference event than ALSC Speed Get-to-Know-You. The main thing is that you come experience everything there is to offer at Midwinter. If you’re new to ALA, or just want to get to know us better, this is a great event. You’ll meet a lot of people who are probably in the same position as you and you might even get a chance to meet someone who can offer advice.
