Being an ALSC student member means embarking on an adventure! Being an ALSC student member means opening unknown doors while holding trustworthy hands! I started my library career as a page at the Boise Public Library in 2009. During this time, I convinced myself that I wanted to be a children’s librarian because of the wonderful experiences I had with the children’s department and children’s librarians. But what did I know about being a children’s librarian? English is not my first language. I didn’t grow up in the U.S. with access to classic children’s authors like Eric Carle, Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, or even Dr. Seuss. Could I even be a children’s librarian here? Student Gift Membership Recipient – Alexandra Bell
In January 2017, free two-year ALSC/ALA memberships were granted to 100 students. These memberships were made possible through funds from the Friends of ALSC. The objective of this pilot program is to support new professionals in their ALSC membership and to encourage networking, while taking advantage of professional development opportunities, and career support.
