The ALSC Public Awareness and Advocacy Committee is updating the ALSC “Everyday Advocacy” webpage. The page includes resources on how ALSC members can advocate for themselves and for children on the importance of library services for our youngest patrons. A new addition will be information on working with legislators.
Considering the current state of affairs in the United States, advocacy for library services to children may be more vital than ever before. The ALSC Advocacy and Legislation Committee would like to make sure you have all the tools and resources you need to be excellent advocates for yourselves, your libraries, and children and families in your communities.

While the overwhelming majority of Americans are focusing solely on influencing the outcome of this important election, other matters of importance are still happening in Washington and require the voice of each and every one of your library advocates.

As part of the Everyday Advocacy campaign, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is giving away buttons with a call to action. The buttons, emblazoned with the slogan “Creating a Better Future for Children through Libraries,” will be available at the 2015 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Chicago and the 2015 ALA Annual Conference. Attached to each button will be a tip sheet, created by the ALSC Advocacy and Legislation Committee, which includes talking points to help articulate the value of youth library service. A virtual button will be available to those who are not able to attend either conference. The campaign will be launched at the Leadership & ALSC session on Saturday, January 31 at 8:30am in McCormick Place West W179.
