#PLA2026: Fat-Inclusive Libraries and Teen Services

Amelia Mason’s session, Every Story Matters, Every Body Belongs: Fat-Inclusive Libraries, clarified several routine teen-services choices for me. Mason, of Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library in Arizona, examined anti-fatness in library spaces, collections, programming, and workplace culture. She explained that she uses fat as a neutral descriptor in the context of her presentation. As I listened, I kept thinking about a theme that had already surfaced earlier in the day: libraries teach belonging through everyday choices.
