There’s no doubt that the amazing lineup of speakers covering the latest hot topics in children’s librarianship is sure to be a huge draw for attending the ALSC National Institute this September, but so is “The Queen City” itself. Cincinnati is your destination for a fun fall getaway! Foodies will want to start their Cincinnati foods tour by sampling Cincinnati-style chili; tastes are divided between Skyline Chili and Gold Star Chili, though many neighborhoods also feature chili parlors, so try one or try them all and see which recipe reigns supreme. Don’t miss Graeter’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat; we’re especially digging the Chunky Chunky Hippo flavor inspired by our favorite resident of the Cincinnati Zoo, Fiona the hippopotamus. What’s the Big Idea? #alsc18 #act4kids

If our previous posts haven’t already enticed you to sign up for the ALSC Institute in Cincinnati this September, the inclusion of two “Big Ideas” sessions should seal the deal! New this year, the Big Ideas sessions will kick off Thursday’s and Saturday’s activities with top-of-mind topics discussed by industry leaders. In the Big Ideas session “A is for Advocacy,” a veritable who’s-who of children’s literature scholars will present their perspectives and action steps to bring diverse literature front and center in libraries and classrooms. The panel discussion runs from 11 am-12 pm on Thursday, September 27, and features four speakers: Edith Campbell is an Assistant Education Librarian at the Cunningham Memorial Library at Indiana State University, and blogs at CrazyQuiltEdi; Patricia E. Enciso is Professor of Literacy, Literature, and Equity Studies at Ohio State University, and the author of numerous publications; Jamie Campbell Naidoo is a Ph.D. and Foster-EBSCO…

Wow, 2018 is here already! I remember when I first started my position with ALSC last year there was so much talk happening around the 2018 ALSC National Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m thrilled that the time is almost here! We’ve made some major exciting announcements over the past few months. Did you miss any of them?
