Hooray! The YMA Is Almost Here! #ALSCJOY

You may have heard of many changes within the American Library Association (ALA), in particular changes brought about by the reunification of ALSC and YALSA, but some things will remain the same, and one of these is the ALA Youth Media Awards (YMA).

The Long Beach Hyatt Regency Hotel was the site of the National REFORMA Conference VIII, which was held September 18-21, 2025. The Inaugural Pura Belpré Award Book Evaluation Training Seminar took place during the Preconference, on September 17. The Pura Belpré Award is co-sponsored by ALSC, REFORMA, and YALSA.

In my first blog post, I spoke of the high energy that I experienced during the 2025 ALA Annual Conference in Philadelphia. The energy at the conference was electric and overwhelmingly positive even in the face of new challenges for our library profession.

It is my esteemed pleasure to write my first blog post as your 2025-2026 President of ALSC. Thank you for the many well wishes via email, social media, and snail mail. It was wonderful seeing old friends and meeting new friends at the ALA Conference inPhiladelphia. The energy was electric in facing new challenges for the library profession. Together we will turn these challenges into opportunities! Our #ALSCJOY will light the way as we accomplish our goals. I am proud of the team we have formulated for my term; all of our members combine to make ALSC a strong division of the American Library Association.
