The 2026 Sibert Informational Book Award Selection Committee is calling on ALSC members to submit titles for consideration. The Sibert Award is presented annually to the author, author/illustrator, co-authors, or author and illustrator named on the title page of the most distinguished informational book for children published in the United States in English during the preceding year. As you are making your suggestions, please keep in mind that Folktales and other traditional literature are not eligible; in addition, books should meet the award criteria:
- Excellent, engaging, and distinctive use of language
- Excellent, engaging, and distinctive visual presentation
- Appropriate organization and documentation
- Clear, accurate, and stimulating presentation of facts, concepts, and ideas
- Appropriate style of presentation for subject and for intended audience
- Supportive features (index, table of contents, maps, timelines, etc)
Recommended titles must be published in the United States in 2025, and the books’ creator(s) must be residents of the United States. Keep in mind that book creators and publishers may not suggest their own books.
