Summer Reading may be winding down at your library as we move into the last month of the season – so now it’s time to look forward to your fall plans! Is Professional Development a part of them?

eLearning and professional development resources are integral to ALSC – here is what we’ll be offering this fall, as well as other eLearning resources to explore!

Join a Live ALSC Webinar

ALSC’s live webinars are a fantastic opportunity to learn from experts in the field of library service to children. We’ll be offering two paid webinars over the next few months – and remember, ALSC members receive 50% off registration:

  • Should It Stay or Should It Go – Thursday, September 18 at 12pm ET/1pm CT, presented by Danielle “Dani” DiAmico and Dena Moscheck

Sharpen the tools you need to objectively analyze your existing programming, discuss program effectiveness with colleagues and stakeholders, and consider whether or not program resources can be better utilized – or canceled altogether. Register here.

  • Creating Interactive Storytimes with Music, Play, and More – Thursday, October 2 at 12:30pm ET/1:30pm CT, presented by Alyssa Jewell, MLIS, who presented at the highly-acclaimed ALA Annual 2025 Preconference

Learn the framework for creating music and movement storytimes that encourage children to embody concepts and interact with others through moving, music-making, and story drama. Register here.

Member-Exclusive FREE Professional Development

In addition to these two paid webinars, ALSC will also hold a member-exclusive webinar in October that is FREE to both ALSC and YALSA members.

Creative Writing Workshops for Library Kids: From New York, NY to Norwalk, IA on Thursday, October 23 at 12pm ET/11am CT features presenter Rowana Miller – Executive Director of Cosmic Writers – alongside Joy Hariprasad from NYPL and Catherine Shook from Norwalk Easter Public Library in Norwalk, Iowa.

The presenters will share their best practices for developing writing programming for young patrons, from setting up creative writing programs for their libraries to determining program structure and designing curriculum.

This member-exclusive eLearning platform features online courses, webinar recordings, and on-demand training so you can set your own learning pace. Explore available resources by logging into the ALA eLearning website and clicking on the “ALA Member-Exclusive Learning Library” banner.

No matter your time or budget, ALSC likely has a professional development webinar, training, or eCourse that will work for you. Once you can catch a breath and reset from Summer Reading, set aside time for bettering your professional self by using our many resources.
