The First Rung
Uma addresses the challenges of transitioning from peer to supervisor within the same work environment. Her approach is positive and empowering: how we can evolve from a role as the “doer” to the leader who empowers others to be their best. Uma offers strategies for organization, self-motivation and a very intriguing observation: how the storytelling skills we’ve all honed over the years in programs translates into advocacy skills. Manager Survival Guide
Lisa shifts the conversation to coping strategies for managers. Her topics include the benefits of building a peer network outside your building, work-life balance and empowering staff to make decisions. Lisa also stresses prioritizing your staff’s ongoing professional learning and offers suggestions for training that can even fit in to a part-timer’s limited schedule.
Your Personal Success Story
On the third – and very personal – rung, Mary shares her experience with an important job she thought she wanted…but didn’t turn out quite the way she expected. Recounting her journey toward understanding her own personal and professional goals, the webcast gets interactive as viewers are invited to ask themselves deep questions and consider, among other thoughts, what type of work environment would help them thrive. In this segment, Mary shared an observation that perfectly sums up the value of ALSC and this webinar: “ALSC is a terrific path to leadership…ALSC can help you fill in areas of your resume that you don’t have a job to support…”
