The ALSC Professional Recognition and Scholarships Committee is currently accepting online nominations for the 2025 Distinguished Service Award! Nominations and supporting materials are due December 15, 2024.
This award honors an individual member of ALSC who has made significant contributions to, and an impact on, library service to children and/or ALSC. The recipient receives $2,000 and an engraved pin at the ALSC Membership Meeting during ALA Annual Conference.
Since 1991, the Distinguished Service Award has been a way for ALSC to honor our fellow colleagues who have gone above and beyond to improve the library experience for children. The most recent award recipient is Oralia Garza de Cortés.
If you know someone whose involvement with ALSC has supported and inspired the work of our organization to champion quality library services to children, please nominate them! More information can be found here on the ALA website.
Requirements
- The nominee must be a personal member of ALSC as well as ALA and the individual making the nomination must be a personal member of ALA (ALSC membership optional); organizational members are not eligible.
- Individuals nominated may be chosen from any facet of library services to children.
- The nominee may be a practicing librarian in a public or school library, a library or information science educator, a member of the library press, or an editor or other employee of a publishing house.
- Retired individuals are eligible for nomination.
Applications are also being accepted for the Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship, due October 15 and the Penguin Random House Young Readers Group Award, due November 15.
