Jazzing up Youth Creativity: Free Arts Programs for Libraries
Opening with a live performance from a jazz ensemble, this toe-tapping workshop shares interactive lessons that engage youth in the arts while simultaneously teaching them about history, dance, science, and more. Throughout the presentation, Jazz at Lincoln Center Educators, backed by a band of incredible Jazz musicians, will demonstrate the extraordinary and fun learning opportunities available, for free, through the Mizzen by Mott app.

StoryTeen: Encouraging Teen Interns & Volunteers to Offer Storytime, Support Early Literacy, and Explore Careers in Early Education and Librarianship
Looking for new ways to engage teens and enhance your offerings for young library visitors? Discover StoryTeen, Brooklyn Public Library’s unique teen internship program, where high school students explore early literacy practices, the art of creating storytime, and careers in early childhood education and librarianship. Through support from children’s and young adult librarians, StoryTeens constructed their own storytimes, both virtual and in-person, increasing BPL’s multilingual storytime offerings and the diversity of program presenters. StoryTeens attended required and optional training sessions, from “Storytime 101” to a career panel on the variety of careers available in early childhood education and advocacy to a session with local authors on writing and illustrating children’s books.
