Genuine Connections at #alaac22

Elly waving the ALSC flag at the WCC!

As the ALSC Membership and Marketing Specialist, I usually have the honor of seeing members connect and collaborate with each other (both in-person and online!) It genuinely fascinates me and makes me so happy to see people go from being strangers serving on a committee together, to becoming friends in real life. Whenever I see these bonds forming right before my eyes, I’m always brought back to ALSC President Lucia Gonzalez’s ALSC Matters! column from 2020 where she said, “Throughout this time of transformations and uncertainties, ALSC performed its unifying role by being the platform where children’s library workers meet for the exchange of ideas…”

ALSC is a unifier of people, ideas, creativity, and so much more! I am always reminded of this when it’s conference time. It’s been wonderful to see so many people again in real life and I hope all members, those joining online and in-person, are having a great conference experience.

Elizabeth Serrano (a.k.a. Elly) is ALSC’s Membership and Marketing Specialist. She can be reached at eserrano@ala.org. Please feel free to reach out to her to say hello and ask your ALSC questions!
