Kicking off #LibLearnX with the LLX Virtual Mystery Hunt

What’s that you say? An escape room style puzzle game with loads of great information? A virtual experience that somehow manages to be more engaging than if the same details had been presented in person? Count. Me. In.

If games are your thing, the Mystery Hunt should be a LibLearnX priority. Accessible from the conference platform’s lobby, the Mystery Hunt will have a different set of puzzles available each day, with Day 1 focusing on the Exhibit Hall. In each day’s puzzle, participants respond to a set of clues in order to reveal that day’s password. You can work in a team (limited to 4 members) or on your own (I’m flying solo!), and along the way, you are sure to learn much more than you expected — both about your own cleverness AND about all the things ALA has to offer.

It poses a serious — and seriously fun!– challenge with some answers coming easily and others serving to stump even the most seasoned fan of ciphers and word play. Brought to you by the Games & Gaming Round Table and the Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table, this puzzle inside a mystery inside an enigma is terrific! Plus, there are PRIZES!

Now excuse me, but I’ve got one more puzzle to solve to get today’s password!

PS: For those of you not attending LibLearnX, I will post a follow up at the close of the conference, revealing some of the stuff that blew my mind! For now, no spoilers!

Conference Blogger Sara Beth Coffman is a student in the MSIS program at UTK, pursuing a second career in public librarianship after many years as a teacher. A writer and reviewer, Sara Beth also works with children and youth at the Chattanooga Public Library and served as member-manager for YALSA’s blog The Hub in 2021. Sara Beth is looking forward to all the inspirational and educational sessions at LibLearnX and can often be found (or overheard) eating tortilla chips.
