Even though I live in Florida, where leaves never change and temperatures hardly ever drop, I love the fall season. Decorations are up in libraries everywhere, highlighting tones of oranges and brown. Scarecrows, cornucopias, and haystacks announce the arrival of the harvest time. After a year of planting so many seeds of innovation, and much improvisation, everyday life is now starting to stabilize, and also library services and programs. As we enter the last quarter of the year, ALSC continues to explore new ways of fulfilling its mission while seizing the moment to renovate and innovate its structure and processes.
And talk about innovation and flexibility! LibLearnX will be our next virtual point of encounter. Awards committees will soon be holding their virtual deliberating meetings to select the 2022 lineup of winners and honorees. I can’t wait to cheer with excitement during the Youth Media Announcements.
And hopefully LLX will be followed by the much awaited return to in-person meetings at ALA Annual in Washington, DC and later at the 2022 ALSC National Institute in Kansas City, MO September 29-October 1, 2022.
In the meantime, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 I hope to see a lot of you at our fall ALSC Community Forum where we will be focusing on the proposed, and much needed, Organizational and Electoral Process Efficiencies. In response to recommendations by Nominating & Leadership Development Committee members, the Board is submitting to membership, on the spring 2022 ballot, revisions to the Nominations & Elections bylaws. More information about these bylaws changes, including the exact language that will appear on the ballot and the pros and cons of the revisions for member consideration, will be available in early 2022.
Everyone is invited to attend the ALSC Board Meetings that are held monthly (https://www.ala.org/alsc/aboutalsc/governance/board-work/schedules) to learn more about the latest topics of discussion. Stay well! Stay engaged! Stay informed!
