ALSC Happenings – Engage with us!

The fall season is a busy, busy time of year for ALSC! I’m taking this blog post opportunity to update you on a few upcoming opportunities for engagement:

  • ALSC Chat: Our School Age Programs and Services Committee is hosting an ALSC chat on Monday at 4pm! The chat will focus on how public and school library workers are supporting students this school year.
  • ALSC Community Forum (ALA member login required): Our members have important business coming to the ballot next year! It’s explained a bit more in a recent blog post, and our Community Forum on Wednesday will aim to support our members’ understanding of these ballot items to help them make an informed vote. It will be recorded and made available shortly after for members who are unable to attend live.
  • The 2021 Children’s Literature Lecture Celebration honoring the work of Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop will take place on December 2. You do not want to miss this! The celebration will feature a live, moderated discussion of thought leaders in children’s literature: Dr. Violet Harris (University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign), Dr. Dianne Johnson-Feelings (University of South Carolina), Alexandra Kennedy (The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Literature) and moderator Dr. Jonda McNair (The Ohio State University). The celebration will also feature prerecorded remarks from a variety of children’s literature authors, illustrators, and leaders in the field, including Dr. Bishop; resources and materials for attendees, and more! Register in advance to attend this virtual celebration.

Finally, I want to bring you back to a recent blog post by our Membership Committee. The committee is currently brainstorming ways to engage our membership at the upcoming NEW LibLearnX and we need your input!

I’m looking forward to “seeing” you at one or all of these upcoming events and opportunities!
