ALSC Board

ALSC and Midwinter Excitement Just Around the Corner!

Happy New Year ALSC members and Friends!  Here in the inland Northwest the weather can’t decide whether to snow or rain so it’s doing both at the same time!  Weather can be unpredictable for Philadelphia as well, so best to pack an umbrella and boots.  So many ALSC choices to look forward to in just a few short weeks, so start planning your schedule now.  I like to use the ALA online conference scheduler to build my list of meeting, programs, and special events. You can find a link to it from the Midwinter conference page.

As President of ALSC I’m hoping to see you at some of our events, a few of which I’ll highlight here.  ALSC & Leadership is a great place to start.  This Midwinter it will be held on Saturday, January 25, 3:00-5:30 pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 119 A-B.  We welcome everyone to the meeting as it is a great place to network with committee chairs, members, the ALSC board and investigate where you might want to serve.  What better way to explore committee work than where our leaders and future leaders can be found?  Sitting in during All Committee Sunday morning is a way to learn about our process committees from those serving right now.  Attending a Board meeting is a way to delve deeply into how our organization is run.  We hold two meetings at Midwinter: Saturday morning and Monday afternoon and we welcome observers.  A few of the items we will be discussing are the update to the Strategic Plan, budget, committee reports and how ALSC committees will work with the upcoming transformation of the Midwinter meeting.

Our penultimate event will be Monday morning 8:00-10:00 am when the winners of a myriad of book and media awards will be announced at the Youth Media Awards in Pennsylvania Convention Center, Ballroom AB.  It will be a packed house, so come early for a good seat and to be close to the action! Unable to attend?  Follow the action live at , @AmericanLibraryAssociation or by following #ALAyma20 .

To wrap up the conference and help celebrate the year-long hard work of all the committees, please join ALSC and YALSA for their joint member reception, Monday evening, 5:30-7:00 pm in the Philadelphia Marriott, Room Liberty C.  Light hors d’oevres will be served and there is a cash bar.

To find all the ALSC Midwinter events, use the ALA unit pull down menu in the Scheduler and select ALSC.

Please send an email and let me know what’s on your mind!
