As I write this I am waiting at the airport ready to continue my journey to #alsc18 and so excited to #act4kids by presenting to rooms filled with my passionate peers. I won’t lie to you friends, I am shaking in my sandals right now. I have presented before, but this feels like the biggest thing I have ever done in this profession. Having never attended the Institute before, I feel like a newbie that is being thrown in the ring waiting to battle Ali or Tyson.
These are good nerves though.
If you are passionate about what you do, I am sure you have had an idea worthy of sharing. One of the best feelings, apart from hot fudge sundaes and toddler giggles, is contributing to your profession in a way that moves it forward. I am hopeful that my program, Grown-ups Are People Too, will do just that.
The posts I share this week will hopefully include things like:
- a food selfie with great friends,
- what it is like to eat breakfast with Margarita Engle, Raúl Colón, and Mike Curato,
- which exhibit has the best swag (or treats because small bites of candy keep me going), and
- that my team triumphed at ALSC Trivia.
Beyond that, I will do my best to provide a glimpse into what it is like to present at the ALSC Institute. Hopefully there are a few readers out there who are inspired to submit for ALSC 2020.
