The city of Cincinnati offers a lot of cool and educational sites for those who visit. If you weren’t able to come to ALSC Institute there are still lots of reason to come visit and things to experience.
I was lucky to attend the Youth Connections Reception at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center on Wednesday evening. Walking the exhibits on the third floor were intense, powerful, and also heartbreaking.
The gathering took place in the Pavilion of Cooperation which was aptly named as the night kicked off with some local organization speaking about their work with children and families.

Whether you are from Cincinnati or not, take a look at these organizations and use them as a spark to reach out to those in your community who could be great library partners.
Just around the corner from the Freedom Center is the historic Mercantile Library. This library has been around for over 170 years. The space is beautiful and as one ALSC Institute attendee was overheard saying “It’s very Harry Potterish”.
This was the site for ALSC Trivia Hour and about 150 Children’s Librarians, including myself, gave it a go at answering 50 Children’s Literature trivia questions. While my team didn’t win, we got a respectable 33 questions correct!
Near to both are the riverwalk, ferris wheel, and carousal.
I’m from Northeast Ohio – just outside Cleveland and hadn’t been to Cincinnati since I was a kid. It was great to discover these treasures within just a couple block radius!
