Books are arriving and the 2018 Newbery committee is busily reading but we need your help in ensuring we are identifying the very best in children’s literature published in 2017. Please consider suggesting a title to the committee for consideration. Visit the Newbery Medal page, log into your ALA account and fill out the suggestion form. It’s that easy!
The Newbery Medal is presented annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published during the preceding year. Honor books may be named.
Distinguished is defined as:
- marked by eminence and distinction: noted for significant achievement
- marked by excellence in quality
- marked by conspicuous excellence or eminence
- individually distinct
