A quick readers’ advisory quiz!
A patron asks you for the perfect book to read to her preschooler who throws temper tantrums and refuses to mind. Add your first thought to the comments and then read more to see two very different suggestions!
Recently, that very question was posed to me and a colleague.
Her first thought:
Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes (Harper Collins, 2010)
because … not everything goes your way, relax, don’t sweat the small stuff
My first thought:
Jim, Who Ran Away from His Nurse, and Was Eaten by a Lion (Knopf, 2010)
because … well, obviously… !
Guess which one of us has kids and a wicked sense of humor? 😉
A disclaimer here – although it was my first thought, I didn’t go with it—but if it had been on the shelf, I might have!

“Even Superheroes Have Bad Days” by Shelly Becker (Illus. by Eda Kaban)
Alec
Mouse Was Mad by Linda Urban, ill. Henry Cole.
Or maybe Finn Throws a Fit by David Elliott, ill. Timothy Basil Ering.

Thanks, all. It’s interesting to see what everyone thinks of first. It’s all in the perspective.

Haha! I LOVE your RAs 🙂
I confess, I cheated and looked at your responses first (only because I’m VERY busy and in a hurry ; ) but given the extra minute or two to think, I would advise Breathe by Scott Magoon. Modeling calming tactics could be helpful for children. (I know I’ve had to tell myself to stop and breathe many times this past week 🙂 Deep breath in………now out! Ahhh!
Hang in there everybody!
Lisa
Thanks for reading! ☺
