Announcing Virtual Office Hours with the ALSC Vice-President

Office hours sign

Welcome to my Office

Do you have questions about how you can contribute to ALSC, or which committee you should volunteer for?

Shortly after the Midwinter Meeting I will be making appointments to ALSC process committees.  Midwinter is a great place to network and scope out the work of the Association, at Leadership & ALSC and the All Committee Meeting.  It’s where I charted my course through ALSC, sparking ideas in conversation and then hearing someone say: “you know, you might really enjoy …”  But more and more of our committees are meeting online, and there’s no reason that sort of networking can’t too.

For those of you not attending the upcoming Midwinter Meeting: if you are a looking for your first process committee assignment, or if you’ve done some process committee work and think you might be interested in chairing your first committee, I invite you to sign up to chat with me for 15 minutes.  Here’s how it works.

Familiarize yourself with the ALSC process committees

Browse What Does That Committee Do to get an overview of committee functions, and click through to more details on each.  ALSC committees are divided into Priority Groups, including Child Advocacy, Organizational Support, Partnerships, and more.  I will make appointments this spring for all committees except those in Priority Group 2 (Evaluation and Media) and 5 (Awards); those appointments are made in the fall.  If you may be interested in any of the “process” committee in any of the other Priority Groups, I am all ears!

Sign up for a 15-Minute Chat

Choose a timeslot not already taken, and sign up with your name and email address in the name field.  I’ll confirm with you by email and have you select a platform (currently Twitter, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangout, or phone) for our chat.

Take a few minutes to plan

Be prepared to tell me a little about yourself and your work. What makes you passionate or satisfied in your work? What about ALSC’s current projects and initiatives are you most interested in?

Next month I’ll be sharing more about the committee volunteer form and appointment process, so whether or not we chat before then, please stay tuned. And don’t forget that committee service is just one of many ways to Get Involved with ALSC!
