ALA Annual 2016

Seeds to Grow from My #alaac2016 Experience

Storytime Katie is amazing.  If you are a children’s librarian, you probably already know about her blog.  I met Katie today at the Guerrilla Storytime in the Networking Uncommons.   She had many wonderful songs and ideas.  She is one of my Storytime super-heroes.  Learning from all the librarians at this session was a valuable experience in a weekend of inspiring sessions.  It is going to take me some time to process all the thoughts and plans inspired by the conference.  In no particular order, here are my strongest impressions and seeds to nurture for the future:

  • Take Kleenex.  The emotion in the room during the acceptance speeches will move you to tears.  We need more diverse books.  Thank you Reforma, ALSC, and Pura Belpré.
  • Infopeople is going to be offering education on building an effective learning culture in your library.  You can sign-up for information on these upcoming fall programs here.
  • There are amazing tools available for free, or at a low-cost, on the internet.  You can learn to use them quickly and easily.   They may even inspire a tween program.

Farewell #alaac2016.  It has been another energizing conference.  I’m already dreaming of next year.
