ALA Annual 2016

Advocacy & Legislation committee and DOUGHNUTS!

This morning at #alaac16 I had the opportunity to sit in on the Advocacy and Legislation committee‘s meeting as the incoming ALSC Board liaison. The charge of this committee is:

To provide tools and information to empower members in support of grassroots advocacy efforts on behalf of libraries, children and families. To serve as a channel of communication on legislative matters among the ALA Legislation committee, the Division Leadership, and its members, recommending to the ALSC Board changes as necessary in federal, state and local legislation proposed by the ALA Legislation committee, and advise on ALSC interests in the proposals before ALA Council.

They are doing fascinating, vibrant, and IMPORTANT work!

The current chair of this committee, Matt McLain, had driven 30 miles this morning to find GREAT donuts and he brought this rather large quantity of sweet treats to share with everyone at the “All Committee meeting.”  What a nice morning wake-up for everyone at the All-Committee meeting!

But there was a catch..

When you took a donut you were encourage to Call, e-mail, or tweet your U.S. Senators and let them know why Dr. Hayden is the best choice to lead the Library of Congress. For more information on how you can reach your Senators with this important message, visit the ALA Legislative Action Center.
