ALA Annual 2013

Meet Me on the Red Carpet–In Person AND Online!

Arriving_on_red_carpet_(2091667255)The Caldecott 75th Anniversary Task Force cordially invites you to join us at the Red Carpet event before the 2013 Newbery-Caldecott-Wilder Banquet at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.  Everyone is invited to the celebration–the pre-banquet Red Carpet is a non-ticketed event.  Off-site guests are encouraged to celebrate from afar through special online offerings.

For ALA Attendees:
The Red Carpet event begins at 5:30pm outside of the Sheraton Ballroom where the banquet will be held.  Bring your camera for unique photo-ops and carry a pocketbook for the Caldecocktail cash bar (wine, beer, and soda also available).  Test your Caldecott knowledge and reminisce about memorable books and banquets from the past.  BYOD so you can tweet with other revelers using #caldecott75 and #ncbanquet.

Vintage gown and accessoriesGuests with tickets to the banquet can expect to enter the ballroom no earlier than 6:30pm.  Revelers not attending the banquet are welcome to return to the ballroom at 8:30pm to listen to the Newbery, Caldecott, and Wilder speeches.  All guests are encouraged to don celebratory garb in honor of the evening’s special place in ALA conference history.   Give a nod to yesteryear with a vintage outfit or playfully acknowledge a Caldecott title with your accessories; e.g. a clutch made from “extra yarn.”  If dressing for the decades or character costumes isn’t your thing, simply wear what you would to a nice restaurant.

For Online Participants:
Just because you’re not at ALA doesn’t mean you can’t dress up!  Just like other alluring awards events, you can participate vicariously from the comfort of your living room.  Check the ALSC blog and the Caldecott 75th Anniversary website on Sunday, June 30 for a special activity you can download.  Join the Red Carpet conversation with #caldecott75 and #ncbanquet. Revisit the Caldecott Anniversary Scrapbook for a visual history of the honored award. The scrapbook’s timeline format highlights decades of Caldecott ceremony and celebration! ALSC members might also want to check out the Caldecott Academy or these Caldecott resources for additional enlightenment.

Whether you’re in your bathrobe or ballgown, the Caldecott 75th Anniversary Task Force looks forward to meeting you on the Red Carpet to celebrate the grand finale of this amazing anniversary.   Thanks for making this year-long celebration such a joyous occasion!
