Peter Brown and Kadir Nelson Discuss the Caldecott!

Caldecott 75th AnniversaryWant to participate in the Caldecott 75th Anniversary celebration? ALSC has two Facebook Forums coming up with Caldecott Honor winners!

Peter Brown – Thursday, March 28 @ 1pm Eastern

In June, Brown will be awarded a 2013 Caldecott Honor as the illustrator for “Creepy Carrots!,” written by Aaron Reynolds (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers). He is also the author of “You Will Be My Friend” and “Children Make Terrible Pets.”

Kadir Nelson – Thursday, April 11 @ 12pm Eastern

Nelson has been awarded a Caldecott Honor twice, in 2008 for his illustration of “Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad,” written by Ellen Levine (Scholastic)and in 2007 for illustration of “Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom,” written by Carole Boston Weatherford (Hyperion/Jump at the Sun). He is also the author of “Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans” and “We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball.”

As part of these Forums, ALSC will interview Brown and Nelson about their Caldecott experiences. These events are open to the public and a Facebook account is not required to view. Participants can access the forum via the ALSC Facebook page.

The 75th Caldecott Facebook Forums are part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Caldecott Medal. Throughout 2012 and into 2013, ALSC has many special Caldecott-related events and activities planned, in person, online and in print, to make it possible for all individuals to be involved in the celebration.
