#ALSC12 You’ll Meet Friends

Fierce competition at ALSC Connection trivia
As part of the ALSC staff, I’ve had the pleasure to work with the Institute task force in putting together the ALSC Connection activities for this year’s Institute. For those that don’t know about ALSC Connection, it’s the get-to-know-you part of the Institute; optional activities which allow participants to meet their fellow conference goers in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Well, it can be relaxing. As we saw tonight, trivia got pretty intense.

The best part about these events are the little conversations that they spark. Taking part in these activities, I’ve met people from all over the country, but they all share the same passion for youth librarianship and literature. It’s a great change of pace from sitting in a conference session. People can be themselves.

Keeping an eye on ALSC Connection trivia

The task force has done a terrific job putting on these events so far. The happy hour on Wednesday night was a blast; we were blessed with a beautiful September evening that allowed us to sit outside and enjoy Indianapolis. ALSC 101 this morning was also a lot of fun. And trivia, well…as anyone that was there will tell you, trivia was off the hook. Kudos to Becky White and the whole task force for putting it together. What a great way to meet people!

Yes, the trivia was a blast! As one of my teammates exclaimed “I love being a Children’s Librarian”. Great twist on your typical pub quiz style trivia.
