One of the most requested nonfiction books in our children’s section is the Guinness Book of World Records. It often is successful in encouraging even the most reluctant of young readers to lose himself or herself in a book. With the recent induction of several children’s authors, fans of children’s literature have even more reason to celebrate this annual title.
Among this year’s inductees:
- Having written over 300 horror fiction titles, including books in the Goosebumps, Rotten School and Fear Street series, R. L. Stine has been recognized as the “most prolific author of children’s
horror novels.”
- Christopher Paolini, who was just 15 when he wrote the first draft of Eragon, has been recognized as the “youngest author of a bestselling book series.”
- With 113 titles to his credit, Lee Bennett Hopkins has been inducted into the Guinness World Records as the “world’s most prolific anthologist of poetry.” An incredible poet himself, Mr Hopkins has worked to compile poetry collections on a diverse variety of topics — both silly and serious — including animals, holidays, the seasons, and emotions.
Congratulations to all these recent inductees. Kinda makes you want to take another look at the Guinness World Records, doesn’t it?
