ALA Annual 2011

Candlewick Cocktail Party

Oh, the glamour to be found at #ALA11! Candlewick threw a lovely little cocktail party at the W Hotel on Saturday night and guess who was there:I know, can you believe it? They let me in! And they gave me the opportunity to chat with the hilarious and uber-talented Kate DiCamillo. I was starstruck, but still managed to cover all of the important topics that one should discuss with a favorite author: height, heels and beverages. What a lovely, lovely person Kate is (she even laughed at my dumb jokes)! Such a talented author too! I may have mentioned that already, but it is worth saying twice. I am sure that not one, but at LEAST two of her books are on your list of the best books you’ve ever read. (In case you are not familiar with her books (though this can’t be possible) I am talking about Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux). I know they are on mine. She makes my job as a librarian so easy it is criminal. All I have to do is hand any Mercy Watson book to a second grader and I’m a hero. And The Magician’s Elephant, didn’t that blow your mind??

Carole Fiore , the go-to expert on Summer Reading Programs was also there and she was sporting a great hat, perfect for this hot and sunny New Orleans weather.
