As was the case with the ALSC Scope of Attention Motion at the upper end of our age range of service, there will be opportunities to discuss the three other motions that will appear on the spring 2011 ballot. The first is the ALSC Scope of Attention Motion at the lower end that proposes a bylaws change to our age range of service from “preschool” to “birth.” The second is the New to ALSC Director Motion that proposes the conversion of one of the eight director (board) positions to a “new” ALSC member position. The third is the Frequency of Service on Award Committees Motion. In the manner of the Caldecott, Newbery, Notable Books and Sibert Award committees, the latter motion suggests a limit to service on the Batchelder, Geisel and Wilder Award committees to no more than once every four years (chairs are exempt).
These member discussions will begin in three separate locations on ALAConnect on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. EST, and will remain open through the close of the ALSC ballot in late April. On Thursday, ALSC members will receive an e-mail with direct links to the discussions — just click to participate in the essential work of our association.
