Did you know we recently began offering this new course: Postmodern Picturebooks: Changing Minds for Life? Reading practices may limit reader potential and significantly impact life choices. Wait… What? As a librarian or educator working with young readers, you are in a position to change minds for life through guiding reader engagement with postmodern picturebooks. In this five week online course, you will explore the potential of several postmodern picturebooks to draw children in and excite their imaginations. You will develop practical resources for using these books with young readers by examining specific features of the books, generating storytime plans, and preparing parent guides for several exciting postmodern picturebooks. Libraries, as informal and self directed centers of learning, have been concentrating more on online learning, and it is obvious we need to remember children in this movement as well. Yet when I did a quick and informal survey of library websites, I see much work and time has been spent by libraries on evaluating and recommending online learning sites, and some libraries have even created their own. The great part about a professional association is that it brings together some of the best minds of one field. We have members doing some pretty incredible things. We also have members who would love to know about those incredible things that their peers are doing. The ALSC Education Committee is adding to ALSC’s online course and webinar offerings. If you are interested in teaching a course or webinar, please fill out an Online Education Proposal. How does it work? We’ll for starters you’ll need an idea or topic that you’d like to work with.
