A Wild Ride: 75 Years of the Caldecott Medal

Take a wild ride through the past, present and future of award-winning children’s book art at this stimulating preconference being held at the Art Institute of Chicago, celebrating 75 years of the Randolph Caldecott Medal.  Hear about the creative process from an array of Caldecott winners, as well as editors, art directors, and production managers.  Engage with one another in small focus groups and interactive, critical discussions of Caldecott medal books throughout the years. Confirmed speakers include: Brian Selznick, 2008 Caldecott Medalist; Leonard Marcus, Children’s Book Historian, Author and Critic; and Paul O. Zelinsky, 1998 Caldecott Medalist.  More speakers and illustrators will be posted when they become available.  Registration will open with ALA Annual Conference registration on January 7, 2013.
