Looking for some great programming ideas?

Are you starting back at your school library after a much-needed summer vacation? Or maybe you’re still reeling from Summer Reading Madness at your public library? Sometimes you need a little kickstart to your programming ideas, a little breath of fresh air. Just in time for the Back to School season, ALSC’s School-Age Programs and Services Committee would like to present to you our list of great programming ideas for the kids in your library.

Visit http://www.ala.org/alsc/kickstart for the full list, which contains gems like…

  • Promote your collection with programs like a Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party, complete with a “Manny Cereal Toss” into a toilet seat.
  • Tap into your young patrons’ flair for drama with programs like Reader’s Theater. (Try it with Mo Willems’ Elephant and Piggie books!)
  • Study the science of aerodynamics with a Paper Airplane Workshop.

Do you have a programming idea for school-age children that you’re especially excited about implementing in your library? Leave your ideas in the comments!

Stay tuned in the upcoming months for blog posts from other members of the School-Age Committee, who will be highlighting exciting and successful programs for the school-age crowd.
