Eew! Really?

Some summertime silliness -

As much as I love Jim Arnosky’s wonderful books, my popular copy of All About Turtles was looking pretty shabby, so I stamped it for the discard pile.  Before discarding it however, I decided to take one last look at the lovely illustrations.  That’s when I found …

the banana. Yup, a banana - smashed between the gopher tortoise and the diamondback rattlesnake. Strangely, in it’s flattened, and rather petrified state, it almost fits in with the illustration, don’t you agree? ;)

So what’s the weirdest thing you’ve found in the pages of your library’s books? Have a photo? Email it to me and I’ll add it to this post.

  1. One of my first library jobs was emptying the bookdrop on Saturday mornings. I have found (used as bookmarks, I supposed) both a slice of raw bacon and a slice of wrapped cheese. Oh, and once, a chicken. In the bookdrop. Alive (just barely). Sadly, no pictures to document this experience.

A panty shield – unused (except as a bookmark apparently), thankfully.

I found, what we think, was a piece of Fudge smushed between two books on the shelf

One of my colleagues found strategically placed post-its in a copy of The Elves and the Shoemaker on the elves’ nether regions! Ew, but in a different way, huh?

    Yes, thanks for sharing. :)

Every year there is a festival in May at the giant catholic church next to my branch, and we have found plenty of interesting stuff on Monday morning after Festival. The worst things were a dead goldfish and what smelled like an entire beer spilled down the bookdrop slot (luckily, these were on separate years).

My banana is looking better and better!
