We Have a New Children’s Poetry Laureate!

Congratulations J. Patrick Lewis! The Poetry Foundation has selected him as its newest Children’s Poetry Laureate. This award aims to raise awareness that children have a natural receptivity to poetry and are its most appreciative audience, especially when poems are written specifically for them. In receiving this award, Mr. Lewis is following in the footsteps of esteemed children’s poets Mary Ann Hoberman and Jack Prelutsky.

With over 50 books for children on different subjects and in a variety of poetry styles, it’s hard to pick a favorite J Patrick Lewis book. Three of my favorites are:

Once Upon a Tomb: Gravely Humorous Verses

Doodle Dandies: Poems That Take Shape

Please Bury Me In the Library
