If you are in the Philadelphia area, or will be there for NCTE in November, consider the workshop hosted by the Children’s Literature Assembly. It is on biographies and will feature a host of wonderful authors including Russell Freedman, Gene Barretta, Candace Fleming, Deborah Hopkinson, Kathleen Krull, Anne Schwartz, and Shadra Strickland. The workshop is on Monday, November 23, 2009. For more details and registration information go to the NCTE site and select “Workshop.” This post-NCTE conference workshop is open to members and non-members (of NCTE) and you don’t have to have registered for the conference in order to register for this all-day workshop.

If you are attending the conference please consider another Children’s Literature Assembly event on Friday, 2:30 pm to 5:15 pm. After viewing a presentation of the thirty 2009 Notable Children’s Books in the Language Arts, participants will converse informally at roundtables with some of the authors and illustrators about their honored books. As of this writing these include Jen Bryan, Jan Greenberg, Laura Seeger, Scott Reynolds Nelson/Marc Aronson, Stephen T. Johnson, and Barry Denenburg.
Thanks for adding that information. Wish I were closer!
