I hope to see many of you in Chicago this summer! I have already registered for the Conference, the Preconference, and of course, I have my ticket to the Newbery Caldecott Wilder Banquet. I can’t wait to attend — as an attendee for the first time ever, rather than as an exhibitor or ALA staff.

I’m an attendee for the first time, have served on one regional library committee, and am the Children’s Department head at a library that is transitioning from small to mid size. I’ve been in this position for over two years; this is my first professional job. I’d like to know if there is a way to serve on a committee online. My library won’t pay for me to go to the conferences, so it’s all out of pocket and it’s difficult to get away due to the fact that we are far understaffed. I’m going to the new members round table. Is it possible to become involved with an ALSC committee that meets online? If anyone has information about serving on committees from a distance, please send an email to kimbrec@yahoo.com

I am posting this for Anastasia Suen, author and Plano Library patron. She would like to spread the word to as many youth services librarians as possible.
